The description

In this workshop we’ll be focusing on how to develop your skyscapes looking at the surprising range of colours in the sky and the clouds beyond blues greys and whites. We will also establish how to create energy and movement with your brushwork.

A maximum of 10 students per workshop. All abilities welcome.

The workshop will be run in the Art Room at Rye Creative Centre where there is lots of lovely, natural light.

Materials

You will need your own paints, palette, brushes and solvents of which I will supply a list if you do not already have them.

There will be easels provided and I will supply a small 10”x 8 board for morning exercises but you may want a larger one for your final painting depending on your experience and the size you like to work on. I recommend no larger than 12”x16” either a panel or a canvas to work on.

The plan for the day

The morning will include a deeper look at sky and cloud composition and colour theory; how to balance your sky in relation to the land; and colour mixing for skies and clouds.

After the coffee break you will start developing your own painting and that will continue throughout the afternoon while I demo brushwork techniques for a range of different skies and cloudscapes to help along the way.

Your reference should be any landscape with an interesting sky and of course one that you’ve been wanting to paint. I have plenty of references to choose from if you don’t have one yourself.
